Champions For Children Gala

Hawaii Children’s Action Network (HCAN) will be honoring community members going above and beyond for keiki at their annual fundraiser at the Pacific Club in Honolulu on September 7. This year, HCAN will present five awards: Youth Advocate of the Year, Innovator, Unsung Hero, Family-Friendly Employer, and Advocate.

Sunset on the Beach

Southwest Airlines and the Waikiki Improvement Association have teamed up to revive the beloved “Sunset on the Beach” event at Queen’s Beach this summer. Sign up for monthly family-friendly movie screenings against the beautiful Waikiki sunset backdrop. In September, the movie will be Jumanji. Annual CANstruction Competition
Saturday, September 14 – Saturday, September 21
Teams of local architects and allied design and engineering professionals put their design and building skills to the test as they “CANstruct” dynamic 3D structures, made entirely of several thousand cans of food, which will be donated to Hawaii Foodbank, in AIA Honolulu’s 19th Annual CANstruction competition at Kahala Mall. Since its inception, this event has gathered enough canned goods and food to make 612,437 meals, and over $110,000 for the Foodbank. Families can bring the kids to Keiki Corner on September 14 from 10 a.m. to noon, where AIA Honolulu member-architects will lead keiki ages 5-12 in building with hundreds of cans donated for their use.

Keiki Sunday and Beach Clean Up at Sea Life Park

Releasing more than 17,000 turtle hatchlings into the wild, East Oahu’s Sea Life Park Honu Conservation Program provides ongoing education about the magnificent Green Sea Turtle and its vital role in reef ecosystems. Join them at their Keiki Sunday event along with 808 Clean Ups in helping the community with a beach cleanup at Kaupo Beach followed by a honu release, then head across the street for family fun and educational activities at the park.

48th Annual Honolulu Intertribal Powwow

Freaky Friday The Musical by Mo’olelo Studios

This coming fall, Mo’olelo Studios brings the new, joyful, and hilarious “Freaky Friday” to the Hawaii stage for the first time! Based on the novel by Mary Rodgers, which gave birth to two popular films, Freaky Friday tells the story of a mother and daughter who magically swap bodies for 24 frenzied hours. Directed by Mo’olelo Studios’ Artistic Director Kyle Kakuno, with high-energy choreography by Ku’ulei Kekoa and musical direction from Diamond Head veteran Judy Yoshioka, this lively show promises to be “delightfully spunky” with “timeless appeal”. Freaky Friday will have a limited run at the Dr. Richard T. Mamiya Theatre on the campus of Saint Louis School.

Family Day & Open House at Hawaii Mission Houses

Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives (HMH) is hosting a free Family Day in celebration of local native plants and their uses. Central to the event will be HMH’s newly opened Hale Pili o na Mikanele made of pili grass, which is native to Hawaii.
Also open to the public will be The Wood House, the oldest Western-style house in Hawaii; The Printing House, where Hawaiians and missionaries worked together to produce the first printed materials in the Hawaiian language; and The Chamberlain House, which once housed supplies and families, but today serves as the main exhibition hall for the museum.
Festivities will also include hands-on activities and crafts, 19th century Hawaiian and Western games, and local entertainment.
